Land of the Elephant, Northern Thailand
I have been on a trek through the jungle, rafted down a river, watched elephants painting (yes, actual beautiful paintings, ok they weren’t masterpieces, but honestly better than I could do), and practiced Yoga in front of a giant gold Buddha statue at an Ayurvedic Retreat on a mountain. I was just riding my motorcycle around random roads about 40 mins outside of Chang Mai, and thought I would see what was on top of the mountain.
It turns out that there is a huge white castle with a giant gold buddha statue, and a vegetarian restaurant...Magic.
The place is completely empty, and it seems the Thai owner/visionary who has created this palace in the jungle is off on a pilgrimage to India....I guess after the amazing effort of designing and building the place he has no time left to find guests!
